Fibromyalgia Treatments
There is no cure for Fibromyalgia, but there are treatments that can be used in
order to alleviate the pain. Fibromyalgia patients are first treated through medication. To promote sleep,
antidepressant drugs are prescribed to the patient.
Antidepressants increase the levels of serotonin in the brain and prevents sleeplessness. Other
fibromyalgia treatments are possible if you don't wish to take prescriptions drugs. Herbal
medications are another option you may wish to try as a fibromyalgia treatment. Glucosamine and condroitin are a
few options. You can also try massage therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology and acupuncture.
Flower essences are another example of fibromyalgia treatments that are becoming popular and can help to
improve fibromyalgia symptoms, as well as improve physical and mental health. Hyrdotherapy, which is the
therapeutic use of hot and cold water, can also relieve the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
Other fibromyalgia treatments are cognitive behavior therapy, which teaches you methods for dealing with
stressful situations. Therapy is provided through counseling, classes, and with tapes, or DVDs and can help you
manage your fibromyalgia symptoms.
Diet can also play a role in treating your fibromyalgia symptoms. Identify and eliminate food allergies, which can
cause a number of symptoms. Avoid all sugar and refined carbohydrates (white flour products and starches), Increase
magnesium rich foods such as tofu, seeds, nuts, whole foods, and leafy vegetables. Try to focus on a whole food
diet consisting of quality protein (lean animal protein, fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and
whole grains. Be careful of food additives. Some patients with fibromyalgia are very sensitive to the food
additives MSG and aspartate, and experience relief after eliminating these preservatives from their diet. For more
