Fibromyalgia – Symptoms and how to beat
it
Looks like a
simple, scientific word but this disorder which has gone on
to affect more females than males as yet has created ripples
in the medical fraternity. What makes it so complex
that is giving some of the best doctors who are well
equipped with pain treatment some sleepless
nights?
Fibromyalgia
means pain, not literally. The science is that every
human body has a pain tolerance level which is known as a
Pain threshold.
This is given many scientific terms, but I prefer calling it
a Pain threshold.
Imagine you
howling with pain when your dear friend touches you gently
on your hand.
It is such small touches that almost paralyse patients
suffering from fibromyalgia.
The pain affects
almost all parts of the body. Neck, Arms, Shoulders,
Back and the buttocks as well.
The presence of
Tender Points, about 18 of them in a human body are called
as Tender points of Fibromyalgia. These are typically places
where even a small touch will make the person jump and
scream.
The other common
symptom is fatigue. Some of the patients who
have been suffering from this disease have told me that they
wake up at 2 in the night and stay awake. They ask me if this is
something strange. I could only calmly tell
them that this is just a fibromyalgia symptom where you do
not get adequate sleep. And it is this lack of
Restive sleep that causes Fatigue, in general, though there
may be other causes too.
Enough, I have
educated you at length about the symptoms. Now, let us get down to
treating this disease. Keep the following points
stored in your memory pad
1) If
one of your friends got treated for this in one way, do not
expect you to be treated the same way. The symptoms may vary
person – person and any good doctor will look at treating
you for the symptoms that you have and not what your friend
has.
2) Try
and locate a local hospital or an efficient medical service
who know about this. I do not want you visiting
a local orthopedic surgeon assuming he would
know.
3) Last
but not the least, do a lot of mild fibromyalgia
exercise and keep a 30-30-40 carbohydrates, fats
and protein ratio in your diet.
If you do all the above, and follow few
more steps on the directions of the physical practitioner,
and you should be fine….
