Fibromyalgia Exercise

 Fibromyalgia:

If you suffer from Fibromyalgia, you are not alone. It may seem impossible to accomplish every day tasks, however there IS something you can do about it. If you have Fibromyalgia, you have more neurotransmitters that signal the response to pain, as well as fewer natural pain killers in your body. Exercising might seem like it would make the pain worse, however it is quite the opposite. You will benefit from exercising and it will not only decrease your pain, you will have better sleeps, feel more relaxed, and have increased energy levels.

Remember that you need to start out slow. Starting things off too fast will only hurt in the end. Try walking for a few minutes per day and increasing that slowly over the next few weeks.

One of the best exercises you can do if you suffer from Fibromyalgia, is: SWIMMING.

This is highly recommended because your body will be fully supported by the water and your joints will be protected.

As for lifting weights and toning up, there are some exercises that are recommended.

Push ups- However, make sure you do these against the wall rather than the floor.

Weight machines or free weights - Start out slowly, and with small weights!

To get you motivated to exercise, these are the following beneftits of exercising if you have Fibromyalgia:

  • -You will have increased energy levels.
  • You with strengthen your connective tissues and have a wider range of motion for everyday tasks, which will decrease the amount of pulled muscles and pain in general.
  • A stimulated amount of serotonin in the body as well as growth hormone. Serotonin is a natural pain killer!

The following should be the main focus of your exercise routine:

  1. Stretching, Breathing, Relaxing
  2. Strength or Resistance Training
  3. Cardiovascular Aerobic Activities

You should be joining a yoga class or taking some meditation classes to help with relaxation and balancing. Resistance bands and free weights should also be included as well as swimming and other cardiovascular activities such as biking. Tai Chi is another good one as it involves and body and mind, and will reduce pain, stiffness, and fatigue which are all some symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
